Nairobi, Kenya… Every Child Counts (ECC), a Non-Governmental Organization based in Georgia, USA, in collaboration with its local partner, the Kila Mtoto Afaidike Programme (KMAP), is excited to announce the completion and launch of two vital infrastructure projects at schools in Kenya. These projects aim to provide safer, more comfortable, and efficient learning environments for students.
On 5th September 2024, ECC launched the Mutunkei Primary School Toilet Block, marking a major improvement in the school’s hygiene and sanitation facilities by building 12-door toilet blocks for students and teachers. Additionally, the block features a handwashing area and a specially designed bathroom for girls to use during their monthly periods, promoting hygiene and dignity. This project replaces the previous dilapidated latrine block, which had only four toilets, often leading to long queues of up to 20 minutes, particularly for the girls. The new facility will significantly reduce waiting times and create a safer and more private environment, alleviating the pressure and discomfort that students faced daily.
The second launch on 6th September 2024 was the opening ceremony of the Waitua Primary School Classroom Block. The building will house two classrooms, with the ground-floor classroom already completed. The new classroom block addresses the severe overcrowding the school faced following the government’s decision to domicile Junior High Schools in primary schools. Prior to this project, the limited number of classrooms caused overcrowded and uncomfortable learning conditions for students.
The newly built classroom provides much-needed space and comfort, allowing for a more conducive learning environment. The project underscores ECC’s commitment to providing quality education infrastructure that caters to the evolving needs of Kenyan schools.
