A political rift is widening in Nairobi, with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) publicly accusing city Members of Parliament (MPs) of “greed” and “hijacking” presidential functions, effectively sidelining the county legislators.
Led by Majority Leader Peter Imwatok, the disgruntled MCAs have threatened to withdraw from the broad-based government if the alleged conduct of Nairobi MPs continues.
“We are not lesser leaders; we must be respected,” declared Imwatok. “Our MPs, Anthony Oluoch, Aladwa, and Jalang’o, don’t behave as if you are the ones who deserve an audience with the President more than other leaders. We shall expose you till the end.”
The MCAs have also warned of unspecified political action if the three MPs persist in what they describe as sabotaging their association with the President.
“We must be treated with dignity, Mr. Speaker,” Imwatok added. “We shall not allow these MPs to demean us in the norm of MPs. The dignity of this House and Honorable Members must be protected.”
The escalating tension highlights underlying power struggles and perceived disrespect between different tiers of leadership within Nairobi County.
