The stage is all set as the finals of the Inaugural Sakaja Super Cup get closer with the conclusion of the quarter finals stages in matches played at the Goan Institute, Friday 8th December.
The finals of the Sakaja Super Cup Football Tournament are scheduled to played at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday 16th December, 2023.
In the first action of the day at Goan Institute yesterday, Classic FC saw off Technical University of Kenya side -TUK Hammers after pipping them by a sole goal that was scored by Thomas Namolo in the 61st minute.
Githurai Allstars ended Pumwani Sports Clubs fine run with two first half goals that saw the Githurai side emerge 2-0 winners. Goals for Githurai Allstars were netted by Erick Kuria who found the next in the 13th minute before sealing his brace in the 19th minute of the match.
Earlier on Thursday in the pre-quarter finals round, Pumwani SC had thrashed Mukuru Combine 3-0 with goals apiece from Maleche Ali, Njoroge Joseph and Kevin Tuara own goal as Githurai All-stars scrapped though a terse penalty shootout, won 7-6, against Mwiki United following a goalless draw.
In another match on the cards, Lucky Summer Sports defeated PAC University 2-1 with Lucky Summer Sports goals coming courtesy of Gideon Omondi who struck in the 7th minute and Levi Odede in the 35th minute game to sent the Ruaraka sub county outfit two nil up at the break. The PAC University boys pulled one back through Chrisantus Kasambeli in the 67th minute but it was never enough to see them through.
Kawasaki FC inflicted a 5-0 thrashing on KYSA. Kawasaki went ahead in the 4th minute after Achweya Sedryne opened his tally before striking again in the 6th minute and completing his hat trick in the 46th minute. Two more goals from Wanjala Kefa in the 12th minute and Dago Barrack in the 65th minute ensured Kawasaki seal the all important victory.
Kibagare Slums FC defeated B13 FC by five goals to one as Echiteti Alvin, 20th minute, Musieka Benson, 31st, Kongo Willis, 68th and 75th and Wafubwa Zacharia, 78th all scored while B13 pulled one back courtesy of number nine Kamau Denis in the 25th minute.
Dandora Hunters lost 1-2 at the hands of FC Creative Hands, Mowlem United fell 1-2 to Victors Faith while the match pitting Asec Huruma and Leads United was abandoned.
In the ladies competition, Dandora’s Dadstar played out a goalless draw against Michezo Halisi Kenya forcing the match into penalties won by Michezo Halisi Kenya 8-7.
In the second match, Makolander outclassed Bright Future winning by two goals to nil. Makolander scored through Atieno Joyline and Simiyu Winfred while Jojo defeated Ruai Starlets 2-0, courtesy of goals from Cueller Rachel and Achieng Florence
With the tag line #LazimaIchezwe, the Sakaja Super Cup tournament director Hon. Osman Khalif has said that this first edition has been a major success with the quarter finals already concluded. And plans afoot to expand the tournament and include youth tournaments in future editions.
Winners of the competition will pocket 3 million prize money with runners up getting 2 million and the third place finishers 1 million shillings. Winners of the women competition win 300,000 shillings
