Students in Nairobi have launched a peace campaign dubbed ‘Nairobi ni Yetu’ to preach tranquility as the August 9 general elections near.In an event that attracted hundreds of students at Daystar University, it was stated that politicians use young people to achieve their personal interests.

The politicians dish out small bits of handouts to use young people cause chaos in their jurisdiction.Speaking during the launch, Global Peace Foundation CEO Daniel Juma has urged young people to be the ambassadors of peace in the country and refuse to be used politicians to achieve their interests.

“We the Global Peace Foundation will be having public awareness on the effects importance of peaceful coexistence and cohesiveness before, during and after the general elections. Post election violence in 2007-2008 brought the economy down, we lost our loved ones, we lost our homes and properties, let’s embrace oneness for the future of our wonderful nation,” said Mr. Juma.

As the political heat rises, the forum called on politicians to tame their tongues in campaigns not to incite people to war and bring to an end the push and pull amongst rivals.
