In response to a call to action by His Excellency President Dr. William Samoei Ruto following recent devastating floods, Optiven Group’s Founder and Managing Director & CEO, Dr. George Wachiuri, spearheaded a massive tree-planting event early Friday morning.

The initiative aims not only to honor the memory of flood victims but also to address environmental conservation in the wake of climate change.

Dr. Wachiuri emphasized Optiven’s commitment to environmental stewardship, stating, “As Optiven, we are the beacon of hope in Environmental Conservation and as such we are leading from the frontline.”

The event, which took place simultaneously at Ocean View Ridge in Vipingo and Ushindi Gardens in Nakuru, saw a significant turnout as participants joined hands to plant trees and contribute to a greener future.

“Climate change has undoubtedly played a role in the frequency and severity of natural disasters like the floods we’ve experienced. But in the face of adversity, there is hope. Together, we can take meaningful action to mitigate its effects and safeguard our communities for generations to come.” Wachiuri said.

Addressing the importance of the initiative, Dr. Wachiuri highlighted the role of climate change in exacerbating natural disasters like floods.

He stressed the significance of collective action in mitigating these effects and safeguarding communities for generations to come. “Planting a tree may seem like a small act, but its impact reverberates far beyond its roots,” Wachiuri  remarked.

Indeed, trees play a vital role in combating climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide, stabilizing soil, and regulating water cycles.

Dr. Wachiuri emphasized the symbolism of trees as agents of resilience and hope, urging individuals to participate in building a more sustainable world. “On this National Tree-planting Day, let us join hands in rebuilding a greener future,” he urged.
